Babīte Lake is a large shallow lake located about 20 km west of Riga, Latvia. It is a popular spot for kitesurfing and snowkiting in winter thanks to its large frozen surface.
The lake is very shallow (average depth 1-2 metres), making it a very safe spot. The waters are calm and flat, ideal for learning and freestyle. All wind directions work thanks to the round shape of the lake.
In winter, the lake freezes and becomes an excellent snowkite spot. Access is from several points around the lake. The kitesurf season runs from May to October, and December to March for snowkiting.
