Blériot-Plage (Sangatte) is the windiest kitesurf spot on the entire Côte d'Opale — regularly gusting 40+ knots, making it the go-to spot for experienced riders who want power and waves. Located at the foot of the legendary Cap Blanc-Nez cliffs, just 8 km from Calais, it is the end point of the famous 12 km downwind from Wissant, one of the most spectacular coastal downwinds in France.
Works SW, W, NW and NE. Long waves (not steep) make for good surf kite sessions. Groynes are a key hazard — locate them before launching. Size down: the wind is always stronger than forecast here. The area is also a back-up spot when Wissant is too packed or too light. SAW Sangatte and Combokite school operate at this spot.

Open all year round
Groynes (wooden breakwaters) on the beach — barely visible at high tide and represent a serious hazard. Identify their positions before launching. Wind can reach 40 knots regularly — size down. SE: offshore, dangerous. The beach is narrower than Wissant and high tide significantly reduces launching space. Strong Channel tidal currents. The downwind to Sangatte from Wissant is reserved for experienced, autonomous riders in appropriate conditions.
SW: optimal — side-onshore, long waves, arrival point of the Wissant downwind. W: direct onshore, powerful, quality wave kite. NW: excellent for wave riders. NE: also works well — Cap Blanc-Nez alters the wind making NE usable (unlike further south). SE: offshore — dangerous. Wind always stronger than forecast: size down systematically. 40+ knot sessions are normal here.
