Spot de Terenez

Terenez

Terenez

Overview

Térénez is a small point of land located in the Bay of Morlaix, east of the Plougasnou commune (less than 10 minutes by car from the town center). A crêperie and another bar-restaurant are present on site.
Directly south of the point is the marina. The sailing school, very active during the summer season, launches from the beach oriented NNW. The presence of safety boats from the sailing school throughout the day provides security.
Térénez is a recognized spot for windsurfing: not for waves but rather for the wind and the setting. Depending on wind quality and skill level, it's possible to cruise across a good portion of the bay.
Since summer 2024, the sailing school has been offering wingfoil lessons.

Spot opening date

Open all year round

In summer, there are no navigation restrictions despite the sailing school. No lifeguard supervision for swimming.

Spot currently open :-)

Parking

Parking available directly at the spot (about thirty spaces). To park more easily, anticipate boat launches based on tides, as well as the beginning and end of sailing lessons when parents come to drop off or pick up their children.

Hazards

Pebble beach, with a seawall that reinforces the shoreline, parking area and point. At high tide, depending on the tidal coefficient, there isn't much space left (width < 20 meters).
At low tide, the small cove empties (wet sand), making it easier to rig up and launch.
Watch out for rocks extending from the point, to the left of the beach and in the direction of Saint-Samson beach (north). Don't get too close to the shore, as you risk hitting them. These rocks are covered at high tide.
In the channel and then in the bay, there are sailboats, motorboats, and dinghies from the sailing school. Some fishing pot buoys depending on the area. In the bay, there are numerous shallows and currents depending on the location.

Wind specificities

In summer, this spot works with NW wind, the most common during this period (W-NNW quadrant). The beach isn't long (about 250 meters), and with this wind direction, in an on configuration, it's not always easy to clear away from the shore.
Navigation is possible with N winds but they are disrupted by the surrounding terrain (plateau at 60 meters altitude).
This is a fallback spot with WSW and SW winds that are generally off on this coast. The wind comes from land, it's more gusty and stronger. Departure is sheltered under the seawall overlooking the beach, then the wind becomes more consistent and better as soon as you navigate in the channel axis.
