We have opened the floodgates!

If you have been following our latest blog post (Things are Heating Up), you know that we have migrated to a new server. And with a new server comes new possibilities! This robust new infrastructure has allowed me to make significant progress on the development of the Let's Kite suite. I am here to tell you more about it.

More Spots Revealed!

My first mission was to unlock all the spots and display them on Let's Kite. However, displaying a spot on Let's Kite requires solving a few issues. A displayed spot, even with minimal information, requires at least weather forecasts and, if needed, wave forecasts. So, with 12,000 spots, because yes, we now display 12,000 spots, that also means importing 12,000 weather forecasts several times a day. Optimization was necessary!

What's the point of displaying so many spots?

Good question ;-) If you take a look at the spot map on the home page, the empty spots are displayed in a lighter gray color compared to the full versions. These "automatic" spots offer two advantages:

  • The first advantage is that they provide the location of the spot. This may seem basic, but in reality, when you are in an unknown region, finding the local spots can be time-consuming. Let's Kite now solves this problem. You can even click on the GPS coordinates of the spot and your Google Maps / Waze will open to guide you to the spot to discover.
  • The second advantage is that now, for each displayed spot, we provide high-quality local forecasts. No need to browse local forecast apps, Let's Kite does it for you and simplifies your choice of the ideal spot for the day.

#shareyourspot | Share your spot discoveries with the community

This brings me to the most crucial part of this article: your involvement in Let's Kite. Now that we have all the kitesurf spots in the world, we need you! It only takes 10 minutes to fill out a complete spot card. One of the great strengths of Let's Kite lies in these very detailed spot cards. If you have ridden on a spot, you already know more than those who have never been there. Your information is valuable, and that's how our community can grow. If in the past few months, you have visited a spot whose card is not yet filled out, go to the spot card and click on the big orange button "Add information about the spot" to follow the guided form. Even if it's not perfect, the community will improve it over time. It only takes 10 minutes.

#shareyourphotos | Dig into your smartphone, you have treasures for kiters

In the same vein, it is also possible to add your photos of the spots you have visited. So, dig into your smartphone, we are sure you have hundreds of photos that could help us! Follow the same procedure: go to the card of the spot you have visited, click on "Add a photo of the spot," and let the magic happen!

Together we are more

The transition to a new server has opened up a multitude of possibilities for Let's Kite, not only allowing a significant increase in the number of available spots but also better interaction and contribution from the community. The addition of information and photos of the spots by users enriches the database and creates an interactive and informative ecosystem, making Let's Kite a valuable resource for kitesurfing enthusiasts worldwide. The progress made is considerable, but the involvement of everyone is crucial for Let's Kite to continue evolving into an even more comprehensive and user-friendly platform.
