Overview

Victoria by the Sea is a charming fishing village on Prince Edward Island's south coast, facing the Northumberland Strait. This picturesque village with its art galleries, theatre and artisan chocolatier offers an idyllic setting for kitesurfing. The Northumberland Strait provides the warmest waters in Atlantic Canada (20-22°C in summer). Southern exposure ensures good fetch towards New Brunswick. Victoria by the Sea is considered one of Canada's most beautiful villages.

Northumberland Strait — among the warmest waters in Atlantic Canada (20-22°C in summer). Moderate chop. Typical PEI red sandy bottom. Moderate semi-diurnal tides. Fetch 30-40 km towards New Brunswick. Boardshort riding possible in midsummer. Accessible conditions.

Hazards

Tidal currents in the strait. Shifting sandbars. Rocks possible (red sandstone). Fishing and recreational boat traffic. Although water is warm in summer, wetsuit recommended in spring and fall. Tourist village — respect residents and swimming areas.
