Cold water — full wetsuit required except in midsummer (July-August). Sandy bottom with gradual slope. Longshore currents possible in strong winds. Good regular surf conditions.
Longshore and rip currents possible in strong west winds. Manistee River jetties and channel to avoid — dangerous currents. Boat traffic in the channel. Cold Lake Michigan water with hypothermia risk. Violent thunderstorms possible in summer with lightning risk — exit water immediately. Commercial shipping offshore.
