The Zandmotor (Sand Motor) is a man-made sand peninsula between Kijkduin and Scheveningen, created to naturally reinforce the coastline. It has formed a unique shallow lagoon — one of the best flatwater sea spots in the Netherlands, accessible year-round. The lagoon is shallow and flat, perfect for beginners and freestyle. Size varies with tidal level — best at high tide.
Kite school Kitesurfspot.nl and KiteBOARDschool are based here, next to Beachclub BIRDS. Webcam on-site. Wind info: Windfinder Kijkduin. More info: NKV Spotkaart

Access from Monster/Kijkduin — follow signs to Zandmotor beach. Large parking area. GPS: Zandmotor, Monster, Zuid-Holland. NKV zone markings on site. Check which side (sea or lagoon) works best for wind direction of the day.
Two environments: North Sea side (choppy to waves, intermediate/advanced) and inner lagoon (flat shallow seawater, perfect for beginners). Lagoon changes shape over time as sand shifts. Water cold year-round: 3/2mm summer, 5/4mm winter.

Open all year round
Lagoon size varies with tide — best at high tide. If riding the sea side, watch for breakwaters and strong currents. Webcam available to check conditions before going: kitesurfspot.nl.
All wind directions work — unique feature of the Zandmotor. Offshore (E/SE from dunes): lagoon side sheltered but turbulent behind dunes. Onshore W/NW/SW: sea side best. N/NE: lagoon cross-shore. Year-round. Best spring/autumn for consistent wind. Summer: thermal winds add unpredictability. Very popular during school holidays — arrive early.
