Byrum Strand is a kitesurfing spot located on the west coast of the island of Öland, in Kalmar County. The spot faces the Kalmar Strait (Kalmarsund) which separates Öland from the Swedish mainland. The west exposure of the spot allows catching southwest and west winds coming from the Kalmarsund. The body of water in the strait is more sheltered than the east coast of Öland facing the open Baltic, offering calmer conditions. Byrum Strand is a popular spot on the west coast of Öland. The Kalmar Strait offers a body of water with less fetch, which suits beginners and intermediates well.
