Sandy Bar Beach is a sandy beach located at the northern end of Lake Winnipeg, near the community of Riverton. Lake Winnipeg, the world's 10th largest freshwater lake (24,514 km²), provides enormous fetch that generates quasi-oceanic conditions. The beach benefits from an eastern exposure, ideal for the prevailing southeast and east winds. The sandy bottom and easy launch make it an accessible spot. Sailing season from June to September.
Freshwater body with fetch that can exceed 50 km depending on wind direction. Short, steep chop typical of large prairie lakes. Waves can reach 1-1.5 m in sustained east winds. Progressive sandy bottom. Currents possible along the sand bar.
