Ponce De Leon Park is located in Punta Gorda, on the east shore of Charlotte Harbor near the mouth of the Peace River. The park offers harbor access with protected waters. Punta Gorda is a small historic town that was severely hit by Hurricane Charley in 2004 and Hurricane Ian in 2022. The spot offers flat water in the estuary.

Shallow and warm Charlotte Harbor waters. Mix of fresh water (Peace River) and salt water. Sandy and muddy bottom. Flat water with limited fetch. Tidal current and river current from the Peace River. Often murky water.
Frequent bull sharks in the estuary and Peace River mouth. Stingrays. Alligators possible near the river mouth. Muddy bottom with debris. River current after heavy rain.
