Overview

Lake Georgetown is a US Army Corps of Engineers reservoir in Williamson County, just north of Georgetown and about 30 miles north of Austin. This 1,310-acre lake nestled in the Texas Hill Country offers a scenic setting for kitesurfing. The lake is fed by the North Fork of the San Gabriel River. The surrounding limestone cliffs and hills create a unique landscape for a freshwater kite session.

Medium-sized freshwater body in a Hill Country setting. Fetch limited by the lake's elongated shape but sufficient for riding. Relatively clear water for a Texas lake. Variable depth with rocky areas. Moderate chop in strong winds. Limestone cliffs can create local wind effects.

Hazards

Limestone cliffs and rocks along the shoreline. Rocky bottom with submerged rocks in some areas. Surrounding hills can create turbulence and unpredictable gusts. Severe thunderstorms possible in spring. Riding area limited by the narrow lake shape in some sections.
