South Siesta Key is the southern tip of the famous Siesta Key barrier island, near Sarasota. The west-facing beach features the iconic white quartz sand that made Siesta Key world-famous. The spot is less crowded than the main beach to the north. Kitesurfing is practiced with prevailing west and northwest winds in the Gulf of Mexico.
Warm and clear Gulf of Mexico waters. Moderate waves with sustained west wind. Very fine white quartz sand bottom. Midnight Pass to the south creates current during tide changes. Calmer conditions than the Atlantic.

Currents in the Midnight Pass area to the south. Swimmers and walkers on the beach. Stingrays in shallow waters. Jellyfish in warm season. Watch for occasional hammerhead sharks along the coast.
