Monolithos is a kitesurfing spot located on the east coast of Santorini, north of Kamari beach. The black volcanic sand beach offers a spectacular setting with the caldera cliffs as backdrop. It's a quieter, less crowded spot than Kamari, ideal for kitesurfers looking for more space.
The Meltemi blows from the north/north-northeast in summer, creating side-shore conditions on this east-facing coast. The water is relatively flat thanks to partial protection offered by islands to the north. An accessible spot for intermediates with good sailing space.
Spot operational mainly from June to September with the Meltemi. Best conditions are found in July and August when wind is most consistent and strong. The spot works with north to northeast winds, ideally 15-25 knots.
Launching is from the volcanic sand beach. Space is sufficient for sailing without crowding. Extended sailing area towards open water.
Semi-flat water with light chop formed by the side-shore north wind. Conditions are generally manageable for intermediates. Black volcanic sand bottom, progressive depth.
Small waves possible when the Meltemi is sustained (20+ knots). Moderate current possible along the coast towards the south. Crystal clear water typical of the Cyclades, pleasant temperature in summer (23-26°C).

Open all year round
Parking available along the coastal road near the beach. In high season (July-August), spaces can be limited. It is recommended to arrive early. Easy access from Santorini airport, located in close proximity.
Coastal current can drift you south during strong Meltemi. Maritime traffic possible (ferries, cruise ships) – stay within the coastal sailing zone. Proximity to Santorini airport – do not sail too far north towards the runway.
Black volcanic sand can become scorching in summer – bring footwear. Rapid dehydration under sun and wind – carry sufficient water. No rescue center on site.
The Meltemi (Etesian wind) blows from north to north-northeast from June to September, with average strength of 15-25 knots. On this east coast, the wind arrives side-shore from the left. Conditions are slightly more moderate than at Kamari to the south thanks to a more favorable angle.
Wind is most consistent in early afternoon and can strengthen significantly in July-August. Windless days are rare in peak summer. Thermal effect possible in the morning before the Meltemi establishes.
