Avon Soundside is a flat water spot on the Pamlico Sound, in the village of Avon on Hatteras Island. It is one of the most popular soundside spots in the area, offering a large launch space and shallow water. Avon is the central village of Hatteras Island with shops, restaurants and accommodations. The spot is ideal for kitesurfing lessons and flat water riding.

Shallow Pamlico Sound waters. Sandy and muddy bottom. Flat water. Emerging sandbars during prolonged northeast wind (wind pushes water out of the sound). Warm water in summer. Thermal SSW wind in the afternoon during summer.
Frequent stingrays. Jellyfish in summer. Thunderstorms and lightning in summer. Sharp shells. Prolonged NE wind can drain the sound, leaving very little water. Busy spot with kite schools.
