Lake Tawakoni is a kitesurf spot on Lake Tawakoni, a large reservoir about 50 miles east of Dallas. This lake is less urban than the DFW metroplex lakes, offering a more rural and natural setting. The body of water is vast with excellent fetch in all directions. The lake is known for catfish fishing and offers good wind conditions thanks to its open prairie environment.

Fresh water of Lake Tawakoni. Large lake with excellent fetch. Muddy to sandy bottom. Flat to choppy water. No tide. Warm water in summer. Large fetch can create significant chop in strong wind. Good for freeride and long sessions.
Violent thunderstorms and tornadoes possible — rural area with little shelter. The lake is large, wind can be powerful. Submerged obstacles (dead trees). Fishing boat traffic. More isolated area than urban lakes — plan for rescue.
