Spot de Point Leo

Point Leo

Point Leo

Overview

Point Leo is a renowned kitesurfing spot located on the east coast of the Mornington Peninsula, in Victoria. This southwest-facing beach offers direct exposure to Bass Strait swells, creating ideal conditions for intermediate to advanced riders. The spot is particularly appreciated for its quality waves and spectacular natural setting, with cliffs and lush coastal vegetation. The prevailing southwest winds (the famous "Southerly Buster") blow cross-shore to side-onshore, offering optimal sailing conditions during the summer months, from November to March. The water area can be choppy, but the well-formed waves more than make up for it for waveriding enthusiasts. The tide significantly influences conditions: at low tide, a rocky reef is exposed, creating shallow areas to avoid. Point Leo is also famous for its seaside sculpture park and surrounding vineyards. Parking is accessible from Point Leo Road, with direct beach access. Watch out for rip currents that can be powerful during large swells.
