Negombo is a coastal city in Western Province, just north of Colombo and close to the international airport. The long beach faces west toward the Indian Ocean and receives SW monsoon winds from May to October. The Negombo Lagoon behind the city also offers flat water options.
An intermediate spot. The beach is wide and sandy, providing good launching space. Convenient location near the airport for arriving kiters. The SW monsoon provides side-shore to onshore winds. The lagoon can be used for flat water riding, though it can be polluted. Sandy bottom on the beach side. The city offers full tourist infrastructure. Watch for fishing boats, swimmers, and beach vendors. Not the cleanest water in Sri Lanka.
