Lago de GĂĽija is a kitesurfing spot on the border between Guatemala and El Salvador, at approximately 430 m altitude. This natural lake offers flat water ideal for progression and freestyle.
During the dry season (November to April), cold fronts bring powerful northerly winds of 15-30 knots, averaging 5 out of 7 days per week. The spot is uncrowded with a natural sand beach only usable during the dry season, as the lake level rises significantly during the rainy season (May to October).
The spot is still undeveloped but locals are welcoming. National kitesurfing competitions are held here. Access is about 2 hours from San Salvador.
