South Banks Ultraflats is the ultimate flat water spot on South Padre Island, located at the extreme south of the Laguna Madre, near Brazos Santiago Pass. The name says it all: flats of absolute flatness with water sometimes ankle-deep at most. It is one of the most renowned spots in the world for freestyle and learning kitesurfing. The proximity to the pass can bring slightly more wind than spots further north. Many kite schools operate in this area.
Ultra-shallow water, often barely ankle-deep. Hard and compact sand bottom. Absolutely flat water — the flat water paradise. Hypersaline and very warm water in summer (86°F+). Perfect conditions for freestyle, wakestyle, and beginners. The proximity to the pass can create slight currents.

Stingrays — stingray shuffle mandatory. Extremely intense sun, sunscreen and hydration essential. Heat can be overwhelming in summer. Currents possible near Brazos Santiago Pass. Spot isolation — bring water and phone. Occasional jellyfish coming from the pass.
