"La Petite Floride" (Little Florida) is a kitesurfing spot located in Bécancour, on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River, at the western end of Lac Saint-Pierre. This evocative nickname comes from the large sandy beaches and relaxed atmosphere of the site.
The spot benefits from the immense fetch of Lac Saint-Pierre. North and northwest winds travel across the full width of the lake (up to 14 km) before reaching the south shore, offering excellent conditions. Very shallow water, ideal for safety. A popular spot in the Mauricie/Centre-du-Québec region. Season from June to October.
Open all year round
Intermediate
Fresh water from the widened St. Lawrence River. Summer temperature of 20-24°C. Sandy bottom, very shallow — you can walk for a long time before the water reaches waist height. Short, tight chop typical of Lac Saint-Pierre. Weak current. Sandy beach for launching.
Extended shallows — very shallow bottom that can catch fins. Commercial shipping in the main river channel (do not cross). UNESCO Biosphere Reserve — respect wildlife and protected areas. Summer thunderstorms on the vast water body. Bottom current that can carry toward the channel.
