South Mission Beach is a kitesurfing spot located in the Mission Beach neighborhood of San Diego, California. This long sandy beach exposed to the Pacific enjoys a mild year-round climate and regular west to northwest afternoon thermal winds. The southern section of Mission Beach typically offers more space than the more touristy northern part. It is one of the most accessible urban kite spots in San Diego.

Ocean beach spot with average waves of 0.5 to 1.5m. Moderate shore break. Water is among the warmest in California (15-22°C/59-72°F), a shorty or 3/2 wetsuit works most of the year. Sandy bottom with sandbars. Wide riding area offshore. Conditions are generally forgiving and consistent.
Very busy swimming area in summer — watch for swimmers and surfers. Drift currents along the beach. Shore break can be surprising during entries and exits. Municipal regulations on kite zones — check seasonal restrictions. Mission Beach jetty nearby. Jet ski traffic in the Mission Bay channel.
