Oval Beach is a kitesurf spot located on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan, near Saugatuck, in southwestern Michigan. This iconic beach, regularly ranked among the most beautiful in the United States, offers a wide crescent of golden sand bordered by tall dunes. The west-facing exposure on Lake Michigan captures the prevailing west and northwest winds that generate excellent waves for surfing.

Water is cold: full wetsuit required except in midsummer (July-August). Sandy bottom with a gradual slope. Longshore currents possible along the beach in strong winds.
Longshore and rip currents possible in strong winds. Cold Lake Michigan water with hypothermia risk, especially in spring and fall. Tall dunes can create turbulent wind at the beach edge. Very crowded beach in summer — numerous swimmers and tourists. Violent thunderstorms possible with lightning risk — exit water immediately. Commercial shipping offshore.
