Ocean Reef is a kitesurfing spot located at the northern tip of Key Largo, near the private Ocean Reef Club community. The spot offers access to the Atlantic (Hawk Channel) with deeper waters and ocean conditions. Situated at the northern tip of the Keys, the spot captures easterly trade winds and northeast cold front winds well. This is a spot suited for experienced riders due to currents and open sea conditions. The area is less crowded than Islamorada or Marathon spots.
Open all year round

The water body faces the Atlantic via Hawk Channel with sandy and coral bottom. Depth is greater than at bay spots — standing is not possible in most of the area. In easterly trade winds, moderate to heavy chop forms with the ocean fetch. In northeast winds (cold fronts), conditions can become challenging. The water is warm and clear thanks to the proximity of the Key Largo reefs.
Strong currents possible, especially during tide changes in the passes. Coral bottom is present — avoid reef areas. The spot is in open water with significant depth — not recommended for beginners. Boat traffic (diving, fishing) is frequent in Hawk Channel. The Ocean Reef Club community is private — verify public access before going.
