Nicola Lake is a large 24 km east-west oriented lake located near Merritt in BC's semi-arid interior. Wind is channelled along the lake axis by surrounding hills. The westerly wind is dominant and regular. Dry prairie landscape typical of "Nicola Country." The lake is known for its reliable wind and consistent sessions.

Fresh water. Flat to choppy water. Good several kilometre fetch along the E-W lake axis. Sand and mud bottom. Warm water in summer (19-22°C). Chop can develop in sustained W wind. Moderate depth.
Wind can be gusty from thermal effects of surrounding hills. Motorboats in summer. Westerly wind can push riders toward the east shore — plan for upwind return. Cold water in spring and fall. Remote area.
