The Racquet Club is a spot on the west (back) side of Tybee Island, facing the marshes and tidal creeks of the Back River. This spot offers protected flat water conditions, in contrast to the ocean spots on the east side of the island. The vast mud flats and creeks exposed at low tide create a unique playground for shallow water kitesurfing. Ideal in west or northwest winds, when the ocean spots are offshore.
Open all year round
Intermediate
Flat water from tidal creek and marsh. Excellent flat water conditions for freestyle. Very shallow at low tide — mud flats widely exposed. Rideable mainly at mid to high tide. Muddy and sandy bottom. Water warmer than the ocean in summer due to shallow depth.
Sharp oysters and shells on the bottom and mud flats — water shoes mandatory. Tidal currents in the creeks. Muddy bottom can make walking difficult at low tide. Stingrays possible in shallow waters. Fragile marsh areas to respect. Not rideable at low tide.
