Compo Beach is one of Connecticut's most popular kitesurfing spots, located in Westport on Long Island Sound. This large municipal beach offers excellent Sound access with a wide stretch of sand and good fetch. Compo Beach is the historic spot of Connecticut's kite community, active since the early days of kitesurfing in the region. The beach is well oriented for south and southwest winds. Westport is an affluent Fairfield County town, about an hour from New York City.
Long Island Sound with good fetch south and southwest. Flat water to moderate chop. Brackish water. Sandy bottom. Wide sandy beach offering plenty of launch space. Significant tidal range changing conditions. Cold water — wetsuit needed September to June.
