Compo Beach is one of Connecticut's most popular kitesurfing spots, located in Westport on Long Island Sound. This large municipal beach offers excellent Sound access with a wide stretch of sand and good fetch. Compo Beach is the historic spot of Connecticut's kite community, active since the early days of kitesurfing in the region. The beach is well oriented for south and southwest winds. Westport is an affluent Fairfield County town, about an hour from New York City.

Numerous swimmers in summer. Kitesurfing restrictions in summer — specific zones and hours. Tidal currents. Rocks in some adjacent areas. Boat traffic. Cold water outside summer. High parking fees for non-residents in summer. Thunderstorms possible.
