JFK Causeway is one of the most popular kitesurf spots in the Corpus Christi area, located along the John F. Kennedy Causeway connecting Corpus Christi to North Padre Island. The launch is from the shallow Laguna Madre flats adjacent to the causeway. The water is ultra-shallow with a hard sand bottom, perfect for beginners. Access is easy with parking directly on the causeway. It's a reference spot for local kite schools.
Open all year round
Beginner
Very shallow Laguna Madre flats, you can stand everywhere. Hard sand bottom. Flat water, ideal for learning and freestyle. Warm water year-round (75-86°F in summer). The dominant SE wind is side-shore. Low amplitude tide but can significantly reduce water level on the flats.
Stingrays — stingray shuffle mandatory. Road traffic on the causeway — caution during launch and landing near the road. Kite lines can cross the road in cross wind. Intense sun. Occasional jellyfish. Do not venture too far from the causeway without landmarks.
