The Mudflats is a kitesurfing spot located in the shallows of San Carlos Bay, near the Sanibel Causeway. This unique spot offers expanses of very shallow sand and mud, ideal for flat water riding. At low tide, vast sandbars emerge, creating a lunar landscape. The spot is appreciated for its ultra-flat conditions and the ability to walk in the water over large distances. It's a perfect complement to the nearby Sanibel Causeway.
Open all year round
Intermediate
The water body is extremely shallow — often less than 1.5 feet. Sandy and muddy bottom. Conditions are ultra-flat in all winds. At low tide, large areas are dry. At high tide, depth remains low. The water is warm but can be murky due to the muddy bottom.
The muddy bottom can hide objects (sharp shells, debris). Stingrays are very present — stingray shuffle mandatory. At low tide, riding may be impossible. Always check tide schedules before the session. Isolated area — ride with a buddy.
