Lucky Peak Reservoir is a kitesurf spot on a Boise River reservoir, 20 minutes east of Boise, Idaho's capital. This canyon lake offers consistent afternoon thermal winds channeled by the Boise River valley. Most popular spot in the Boise area with an active kite community. Sandy Point and Spring Shores are the main launch areas. Season from May to October. Park entrance fee required.

Thermal winds can increase rapidly in the afternoon. Cold water in spring — hypothermia possible. Heavy motorboat traffic in summer. Rocks and cliffs along canyon shoreline. Variable lake level — hidden shallows. Mountain thunderstorms possible with lightning. Rattlesnakes in rocky areas.
