Traverse Bay is a community on the east shore of Lake Winnipeg, north of Victoria Beach. This spot is one of the most exposed on the east shore, located where the lake widens toward the north basin.
Fetch is maximal at Traverse Bay — Lake Winnipeg waves can be the most formed on the east shore here. The name "Traverse" evokes the historic crossing of the lake by voyageurs. Demanding conditions, reserved for experienced riders. Season from June to October.
Fresh water. Temperature of 17-21°C. Sandy to rocky bottom. Maximum fetch — waves can be very significant (1-2+ m). Transition zone between south and north basins. Near-ocean conditions frequent.
