New Smyrna Beach is a renowned kitesurfing and surfing spot on the Atlantic coast, north of Cape Canaveral. Known as the "Shark Bite Capital of the World" (statistically, not dramatically), this beach offers excellent wave conditions in trade winds and northeast swells. The Ponce de Leon Inlet to the north creates quality waves and strong currents. The spot is appreciated by advanced riders for its dynamic conditions. The town has a unique artistic and bohemian vibe.

The water body faces the Atlantic with a sandy bottom and sandbars creating well-shaped waves. In easterly trade winds, waves of 3-6 feet are regular. In northeast swells, conditions can be powerful (6-10 feet). The Ponce de Leon Inlet generates strong currents and quality waves. The water is warm. Wave conditions are among the best in Florida.
Sharks very present in this area — highest concentration of bites in the world (usually minor). Do not ride in murky water or at dusk. Strong currents near Ponce de Leon Inlet. Longshore drift currents. The beach allows cars — watch for traffic on the sand. In westerly winds, conditions are offshore.
