Governor Nelson State Park offers access to Lake Mendota from the northwest shore in Madison. This state park features a nice beach and good water access with open views across the lake. Excellent fetch in south and southeast winds. The park offers amenities including parking and restroom facilities. Season from May to October.

Heavy boat traffic in summer. Sudden thunderstorms frequent in Wisconsin. State park parking fees apply. Respect swimming areas. Algae possible in late summer.
