Prescott Beach is a kitesurfing spot located on the Columbia River, in the lower river section in Oregon. This river spot benefits from west to northwest winds blowing up the river, particularly reliable in summer. The area is tidally influenced due to the relative proximity of the ocean. The wide, flat water body offers good conditions for intermediate riders.
Open all year round
Intermediate
Wide river water body with flat to choppy conditions. Fresh and cool water (12-19°C/54-66°F), a 3/2 or 4/3 wetsuit depending on season. Sandy and muddy bottom. Tidal currents and river current present. The Columbia River is very wide in this section, offering plenty of space. Variable sandbars depending on water level.
Combined currents (tidal + river) can be strong. Commercial maritime traffic (barges, tugboats, cargo ships). Driftwood and debris in the river — collision danger. Cold water — wetsuit necessary. Shifting sandbars. Possible fog, especially in the morning. Wind can be gusty around river bends.
