Wind Over Waves is a soundside spot in the village of Waves on Hatteras Island. This Pamlico Sound spot offers excellent flat and shallow water conditions. The name refers to the wind blowing "over Waves" — over the namesake village. Waves is one of the narrowest villages on Hatteras Island, meaning access to both the sound and ocean is very quick. The spot is ideal for freeride and freestyle sessions on the calm waters of Pamlico Sound.

Flat water on Pamlico Sound — excellent conditions for freestyle and freeride. Shallow depth over a large area. Sandy bottom with seagrass in places. Water is warm in summer (78-86°F). The body of water is vast and conditions are consistent. In thermal SW wind, conditions are perfectly flat.
Stingrays present — do the stingray shuffle. Sea nettles (jellyfish) common in summer. Sharp oyster shells in some areas — water shoes advised. Violent afternoon thunderstorms possible in summer with lightning risk. In strong NE wind, sound water level can drop significantly.
