Mirissa Beach is a popular tourist beach in Southern Province, Sri Lanka. The crescent-shaped bay faces south and is best known for whale watching and surfing. The beach receives SW monsoon winds from May to October, though the bay's south-facing orientation means wind is often onshore.
An intermediate to advanced spot. Kitesurfing is secondary to surfing and swimming here. The beach can be very crowded with tourists. Sandy bottom with some rocky areas on the edges. Waves are usually present. The SW monsoon brings onshore wind, which is not ideal for kiting. Best on days when wind has a more westerly angle. Watch for swimmers, boats, and surfers.
Open all year round
