Αλυκές Λευκίμμη (Alikes Lefkimmi) is a spot on Corfu's south coast, in the area of the former Lefkimmi salt flats. The water is semi-sheltered with shallow depths, offering interesting conditions for intermediate riders. The spot works in southerly and southwesterly wind, when the Maestro (NW) wraps around the island and reaches the south coast, or in direct Sirocco.
Rideable year-round but best conditions May to October. Launch from the edges of the salt flats area. Shallow depths allow standing over a large area, reassuring for progression. Relatively restricted riding area.
Semi-flat water in the salt flats area, choppier in open sea. Shallow depths (50cm-1m) in the protected zone, sandy and muddy bottom. In open sea, chop in S/SW wind. Warm water in summer.
Intermediate
Open all year round
Parking accessible from the Lefkimmi road. Former salt flats area with dirt tracks. Free roadside parking.
Muddy bottom in places — watch for cuts (shells, debris). Wind sometimes irregular with gusts due to topography. Avoid riding too far offshore. Possible maritime traffic to the south. No lifeguards.
Two wind patterns work here: the Sirocco (SE/S) arriving directly onshore, and the Maestro (NW) wrapping around the south of the island to arrive from SW/WSW. SW wind is side-onshore on this south-facing coast. In summer, the Maestro wrap-around is most common. In spring and autumn, Sirocco is more frequent. Wind can be irregular as it's disrupted by the topography of southern Corfu.
