Overview

Slapton Sands is a long shingle beach in South Devon, separated from Slapton Ley (a freshwater lagoon) by a barrier beach. The east-facing spot faces Start Bay and receives English Channel swells. A wild and historic beach (D-Day training site).

Car parks along the A379 road that runs alongside the beach. Direct access from the road.
Hazards
Shingle — difficult landing and launching. Steep beach gradient into deep water. Longshore drift currents along the coast. No lifeguards. Narrow road along the beach.
