Homestead Knolls is a second kitesurf spot on Calamus Reservoir, located on the east shore of the lake in the Sandhills region. This access point offers different exposure from Buckshot Bay, with good fetch in south and west winds. Grassy launch area with parking. Isolated spot in the Nebraska prairies, very uncrowded. Season from May to October.

Relatively clear freshwater. Water temperature from 0°C in winter (frozen) to 24°C in summer. Sandy bottom. Moderate to strong chop depending on fetch. Stable lake level. Full 4/3 wetsuit in spring/fall, shorty in summer.
Violent thunderstorms in summer with lightning and possible tornadoes — exit water immediately. Isolation: rescue services distant, limited cell coverage. Rattlesnakes in grassy areas. Powerful prairie winds.
