Calamus Lake Buckshot Bay is a kitesurf spot on Calamus Reservoir in the Sandhills region of north-central Nebraska. This 22 km² reservoir is surrounded by grassy sand hills that channel wind well. Buckshot Bay offers a sheltered bay with sandy beach and easy launch. Clear water for a Nebraska lake. Isolated and uncrowded spot, ideal for riding in peace. Season from May to October.
Relatively clear freshwater. Water temperature from 0°C in winter (frozen) to 24°C in summer. Sandy bottom characteristic of the Sandhills region. Moderate chop in the sheltered bay. Stable lake level thanks to Sandhills groundwater supply. Full 4/3 wetsuit in spring/fall, shorty in summer.

Violent thunderstorms in summer with lightning and possible tornadoes — exit water immediately. Isolation: rescue services distant, limited cell coverage. Rattlesnakes in grassy areas. Fishing boat traffic. Powerful prairie winds can exceed 40 knots.
