Overview

Amite River is an atypical kitesurf spot located on the Amite River in Livingston Parish, central Louisiana. This river spot offers very different conditions from coastal spots, with a narrow body of water surrounded by vegetation. The spot is mainly used by locals when wind conditions are sufficient. The riding area is limited by the river's width, requiring good kite control.

On the water

Fresh water from the Amite River, shallow with sandy and muddy bottom. Variable river current depending on recent rainfall. Flat but narrow water. Warm water in summer, murky after rains. The riding area is limited by vegetation on the banks and the river's width.

Hazards

Very restricted riding area — risk of landing in trees. Alligators very common in Louisiana rivers. River current can be strong after rains. Floating debris (branches, logs). Venomous snakes possible on banks (water moccasins). Violent thunderstorms. Spot reserved for experienced riders.
