Harlan Lake (Harlan County Reservoir) is a kitesurf spot on Nebraska's second-largest reservoir in the south-central part of the state. This 54 km² lake offers excellent fetch for kiting with consistent prairie winds. Large sandy beaches appear when levels drop in summer, providing good launch areas. Popular spot with kiters from Nebraska and Kansas. Season from May to October.
Freshwater with variable visibility. Water temperature from 0°C in winter (frozen) to 26°C in summer. Large lake with excellent fetch. Sandy to muddy bottom. Variable lake level — large sandy beaches at low water. Moderate to strong chop in high winds. Full 4/3 wetsuit in spring/fall, shorty in summer.

Frequent violent thunderstorms in summer with lightning and possible tornadoes — exit water immediately if sky threatens. Large lake: drift possible in strong winds. Motorboat traffic in summer. Submerged debris possible at low water levels. Rattlesnakes in grassy areas. Limited cell coverage in some areas.
