La Lagune is one of the most famous kitesurf spots in south-west France, located at the southern entrance of the Bassin d'Arcachon (Passe Sud), between the ocean beach and the lagoon, on the Côte d'Argent (Gironde/Landes border). The ocean beach faces west onto the open Atlantic and captures the prevailing South-West to North-West winds along this straight sandy coastline.
The spot benefits from north-west and west thermal winds. It is often used as a fallback when Plage des Arbousiers is off-limits. The vast sandy area also allows kite buggy and land yachting in winter. An intermediate-to-advanced spot with Atlantic waves, requiring excellent knowledge of the strong tidal currents.

Strong tidal currents in the Passe Sud reaching 4 to 6 knots at peak — the strongest tidal currents on the south-west Atlantic coast. Shorebreak on the ocean side during the flood. Sandy bottom. The riding area mixes ocean swell and tidal current — demanding, ever-changing conditions. Body-dragging in these currents requires solid skills.
Parking close to the beach, accessible from La Teste-de-Buch via the D218. Limited facilities on site — services in La Teste or Arcachon (~15 km). Warning: leave nothing in your car.
North-west and west thermal winds, typical of the Arcachon area, building gradually through the morning and peaking in the early afternoon (12 to 22 knots). The Bassin d'Arcachon creates a specific thermal cycle — land heating generates regular sea breezes. Southerly wind offers extra sessions but can be unstable. Wind interacts with the tidal current — when wind and current oppose each other, conditions are more manageable.
