Xylokastro is a spot on the south shore of the Gulf of Corinth, between Aigio and Corinth. This popular seaside resort offers a north-facing beach with good exposure to winds channeled through the gulf. The Vardaris (E/NE) and northwesterly winds are the main drivers of sailing conditions. The Gulf of Corinth at this point is relatively narrow (8-10 km), offering limited fetch and flat water conditions appreciated by foil riders.
Launch from the north-facing pebble beach. In Vardaris (E/NE), the wind is side-shore — riding along the coast. In northerly wind, onshore conditions with short chop. The beach is shared with swimmers in summer — respect the marked zones. The narrow gulf (8-10 km) offers an accessible sailing area with little current.
Very flat water thanks to the very limited fetch (8-10 km maximum). Short and low chop even in sustained wind. Ideal conditions for foiling, wingfoiling and beginners. In strong Vardaris, slightly more chop in the east-west axis but still moderate. No ocean swell.

Open all year round
Easy access from the Corinth-Patras national road. Xylokastro has several beach access points from the town centre. Parking in village streets or along the coastal promenade. In summer, parking can be difficult — arrive early.
Swimmers in summer on this popular tourist beach — maintain a safe distance. Pebbles can be slippery at launch and return. Maritime traffic in the gulf. No specific supervision for water sports.
The Vardaris (E/ENE) is the dominant wind, channeled in the east-west gulf corridor. At Xylokastro, in the centre of the gulf, the wind is well channeled and consistent. North/northwesterly winds cross the narrow gulf to arrive onshore. The Ponentes (W/WNW) can be significant, arriving side-shore from the west. The central part of the gulf benefits from a moderate funneling effect between the Peloponnese mountains to the south and the central Greece mountains to the north. Reliable afternoon thermals in summer.
