The White Dune is Dakhla's most iconic and photogenic spot. A spectacular natural phenomenon: a crescent of pure white sand rising 10 metres out of the lagoon, creating its own mini-lagoon with turquoise waters. At high tide, it becomes an island. A setting that seems unreal, between desert and ocean.
Downwind of the dune lies a true flat-water paradise — shallow, flat, turquoise, ideal for all levels. Beginners can stand and progress safely. Advanced riders enjoy perfect flat for freestyle and freeride. On the windward side of the dune, expect more chop and waves — better suited for experienced riders.
The spot is accessible by kite/wing from nearby camps (ION CLUB White Dune Canyon directly opposite), by 4x4, or during the famous downwinds organized from the main lagoon. It's the must-do excursion of any Dakhla trip — flamingos, crystal-clear water, pristine dune, epic photos.
The most daring riders jump from the top of the dune with their kite... for others, the panoramic view from the summit over the lagoon and the Sahara is well worth the climb.
ION CLUB White Dune Canyon (facing the dune, Duotone equipment, IKO/VDWS certified instructors). Paraiso Sport Center (Duotone, between White Dune and Speed Spot). Dreamkite (organizes regular downwinds). Dakhla Evasion, Ocean Vagabond, Dakhla Attitude — excursions from the main lagoon.
Lagoon — mini-lagoon on the lee side of the dune. Perfect flat on the downwind side. Chop/waves on the windward side. Shallow water (0.5-1.5m depending on tide). Accessible at high tide only by wing/kite from the camps, or by 4x4 year-round. Kites 7-12m.
Lee side of the dune: perfect flat, crystal-clear turquoise water, shallow (0.5-1.5m). Windward side: chop, deeper. Sandy bottom throughout. Water 19-23°C. Wetsuit 3/2mm, shorty in summer. Flamingos frequently spotted in the area.

Open all year round
Year-round. Best wind: April-October. Summer = strong wind (30-40 knots), winter = more moderate (15-22 knots). Accessible by kite/wing only at high tide (sandbanks emerge at low tide). By 4x4 year-round. Downwinds organized regularly by the camps.
Accessible by 4x4 from the lagoon camps. ION CLUB White Dune Canyon is the closest camp, located directly opposite on the peninsula. Paraiso Sport Center also nearby. Downwinds organized from the main lagoon (return by 4x4). 45 min from Dakhla airport. Flights: Royal Air Maroc (via Casa/Marrakech), Transavia direct Paris-Dakhla (Tuesdays), Air Arabia, Binter (Las Palmas).
Offshore wind — do not venture out without solid waterstart and upwind skills. At low tide, sandbanks to cross (successive pools). Intense Saharan sun — protection mandatory. Signposted oyster farm zone nearby — watch out. Stronger current at high tide. Always ride with company or supervision.
Dominant NNE wind, side-shore in the lagoon. Venturi effect and thermal reinforcement. 15-30+ knots, strongest April-October (up to 40 knots in summer). Downwind of the dune: wind accelerates over it but sheltered zone just behind = perfect flat. Windward of the dune: full power, chop.
