Wijk aan Zee – Pier (Strand Noordpier Velsen-Noord) is a North Sea kitespot north of the IJmuiden North Canal, directly alongside the Noordpier. The pier provides natural protection and reduces currents compared to the open sea, making this the most beginner-friendly zone in the area. Kitesurfing is only permitted in Zone 2 — Zone 1 is reserved for surfers and swimmers.
Suitable for freeride, wave and foil. Winds from N, NW, W and SW are ideal. Currents increase the further you ride from the pier. Wide beach with plenty of space for rigging and launching. Nearby school: Noordpier Surf and Loops & Barrels (lessons available).

Noordpier Surf (vaste kitespot school)
Kite only in Zone 2 (right of the marker pole in front of Aloha, May–Sept). Outside season: rules more relaxed. Long walk ~800m from car park to beach. Parking behind dunes — free. GPS: Wijk aan Zee beach, Noord-Holland. From A9/A22 Beverwijk exit, follow signs to Wijk aan Zee then south past Tata Steel.

North Sea — choppy to medium waves depending on wind and tide. Clean waves south of Noorderpier in SW wind. Currents increase beyond Zone 2. Deep water from shore. Large tidal range. Cold year-round: 3/2mm summer, 5/4mm winter.
Paid parking near the KNRM station at the beach entrance. In winter (1 Nov–29 Feb), weekdays: first 30 min free, then €0.60/30 min, max €10/day. In summer, arrive early or park at IJmuiderslag instead. Changing rooms available at the parking area.
N/NW/W/SW/NE all work onshore. NW/W best for wave conditions. SW creates clean waves at Noorderpier. NE: cross-shore, good sessions. Main wind 15–25 knots, strongest Oct–March. Year-round. Best: May–Aug and Oct–Mar.
Currents increase significantly away from the pier — not suitable for beginners offshore. Zone 1 strictly forbidden for kitesurfing (surfers and swimmers). Swimmers have absolute priority. Strong swell possible with NW winds.
