Oosterend / Terschelling is a kitesurf spot on the North Sea coast of Terschelling, one of the Frisian Wadden Islands. Wide, remote beaches with powerful North Sea conditions. Access by ferry from Harlingen (~90 min). The island is car-restricted — bikes are the main transport. W/NW/N/NE onshore winds.
Intermediate to advanced level. Tidal currents and waves make this unsuitable for beginners. Wild and uncrowded — a true off-the-beaten-path kite destination. The village of Oosterend offers basic facilities.
North Sea waves and swell. Tide-dependent conditions — best at mid to high tide. Choppy to wavy. Strong currents. Wide open beach, plenty of space. No shallow standing area.
Intermediate
Open all year round
No car access — Terschelling has restricted car traffic. Take the ferry from Harlingen (~90 min) then bike to the north beach. Bike rental available in West-Terschelling village near the ferry terminal.
⚠️ Strong North Sea currents and tide-dependent conditions. Not suitable for beginners. Offshore (east) wind very dangerous on this exposed North Sea coast — no shelter. Check tides before session. No facilities on remote dune sections. Bird nesting restrictions apply seasonally on Terschelling.
