Spot functioning

Works in SE, SSE and S from October to March. Rideable at all tides. Wind picks up around noon. The bay protects from big swell but some chop builds in strong wind.

On the water

Relatively calm water in the bay, chop in strong wind. No big waves. Cold water (12-16°C), 4/3 wetsuit recommended. Sandy bottom with mud in places.

Parking

Parking at the Beach Club or along the road. Urban area. Low theft risk in this residential area.

Hazards

Marine traffic: industrial port with cargo ships and fishing boats, stay in the kite zone. Cold water. Tidal current in the channel.

Wind specificities

The SE (Cape Doctor) is channeled into Saldanha Bay and blows regularly at 15 to 25 knots from October to March. SSE and S also work. The bay provides some protection from extreme gusts. Thermal conditions early afternoon.
