Zeekoevlei is the largest natural freshwater lake on the Cape Peninsula, located in the Cape Flats just a few kilometres from the False Bay coast. This shallow body of water offers ideal conditions for beginners with its flat water and accessible shores. In summer, the famous "Cape Doctor" (south-easterly wind) blows reliably and creates perfect conditions for kitesurfing. The lake is surrounded by residential areas and nature reserves, providing a pleasant setting for sessions.
Shallow freshwater lake that works primarily with the south-easterly wind in summer. Easy launching from grassy or sandy shores. The flat, shallow water is perfect for learning and progression. The spot also works with north-westerly in winter but sessions are less frequent.

Generally safe spot. Aquatic vegetation can wrap around lines and fins. Avoid reed areas on the edges. Muddy bottom that can make walking difficult in places. Watch out for sailing boats from the yacht club. Sun protection essential as there is little shade.
Zeekoevlei benefits from the same wind regime as the rest of the Cape Peninsula. The dominant wind is the south-easterly "Cape Doctor" which blows strongly in summer (October to March), regularly reaching 20-30 knots in the afternoon. In winter, north-westerly winds accompany cold fronts. As the lake is surrounded by low vegetation and urban areas, the wind can be slightly attenuated compared to nearby coastal spots.
