Grotto Beach is a vast white sand beach in Hermanus, Blue Flag certified. It stretches 5km along Walker Bay. The kite spot is on the eastern part of the beach, away from swimming areas. Moderate wave conditions with onshore SE wind. The beach is stunning with mountain views and, in season, whales are visible from the beach.
Works in SE and ESE from October to March. Rideable at all tides. Low tide offers an immense beach. Moderate waves 0.5 to 1.5m. Possibility to alternate between ocean and lagoon depending on conditions.

Moderate waves on sandy bottom. Water at 14-18°C, 3/2 to 4/3 wetsuit. Moderate lateral current in strong SE. Walker Bay swell.
Large free parking at Grotto Beach entrance. Safe tourist area. Toilets and showers available.
The SE (Cape Doctor) blows onshore to side-onshore on this south-facing beach, 15-25 knots from October to March. Steady and consistent wind. ESE is also very good. Thermal early afternoon.
Sharks: great whites present in Walker Bay. Whales in season (June-November) — keep your distance. Lateral current in strong SE. Occasional jellyfish.
