Noncom is a beach spot located on the south coast of Port Elizabeth, east of Sardinia Bay. The name comes from the former Non-Commissioned Officers camp that was here. The beach faces south and offers wave conditions on mixed sand/reef bottom. It is a regular spot for the PE kite community, accessible and well-windowed thanks to the position in Algoa Bay.
The spot works with SE to WSW wind. Mixed sand and reef bottom. Regular waves. Rideable at all tides but watch for rocks at low tide. Good wave riding spot for intermediates.
Open all year round
Intermediate
Waves of 0.5-2 metres. Mixed sand/reef bottom. Moderate chop. Water temperature between 18-22°C. 3/2 wetsuit in summer, 4/3 in winter.
Access from Marine Drive or the coastal road south of PE. Parking along the road. Residential and natural area.
Southeast wind blows side-onshore. PE being the "Windy City", SE is very reliable reaching 15-25 knots in summer. WSW works as onshore. Sessions possible almost every summer day.
Rocks on some sections. Sharks in Algoa Bay. Lateral currents. Wind can be very strong in PE.
